Fascia, Soffits & Guttering (FSG)

The roof fascia board, or roof fascia and soffit, is essentially the supportive structure that will bear the weight of your roof tiles. The fascia and soffit are the long horizontal bars mounted to support the gutters.

In a heavy downpour, a considerable amount of water (even several litres per second,) can wash down your drainpipes, so it is important to have a sturdy support system to protect your home from flooding or structural failure.

What can we do

If you’re building a new home or looking at repairing or replacing your fascia and gutters, DLPRM can provide you with all the assistance you require, from basic enquiries on cost of new metal roof and gutters, through to expert advice on installing fascia boards and gutters to your home.

  • With almost every FSG installation we provide full roofline ventilation which is required by the Standards Agency.
  • We also install with every job, Felt Support Trays (Eaves Guard / Eaves Protector) which will support any sagging felt under your roof and stops water travelling to unwated areas.
  • Eaves Comb Filler (Bird/Critter Guard) stop any unwanted animals from nesting in your roofline.
  • Gutter guards stop fallen leaves and moss from entering your gutters allowing maximum flow of water and drainage.

All included in the pricing of the job and installed as standard.

  • How much to replace or get new guttering and fascias?

House guttering replacement costs will vary depending on the total perimeter length of your building structure. First it’s essential you get us out to your house in order to complete a thorough inspection and measurement. At this time we will ask you to look at some material options as costs vary between product to product.

  • I haver rotten wood and rafters?

Before fitting your FSG, we will cut out the rot and replace with fresh timber & apply protective wood preserver.

Gutter Cleaning / Repairs

Without regular cleaning of your gutters, your gutters will have this debris build up that can and will cause irreparable damage to your gutters – even the top of the line gutter systems. Also, when your gutters are full of debris, they will not do the job that they are intended for, which is to take the rain water AWAY from your home. Instead of the gutters taking water away, if they are full of debris, they will in fact deliver this rain water directly into your home causing water damage to your home over time.

What can we do

We will clean the gutters AND take away all the debris, leaving your gutters to be able to do the job that they were intended for!

Once cleaned you have option of having gutter guards installed to help prevent further build up of debris resulting in future costs to you.

Roofing

As with most trades, roofing requires specialised skills and the right material choices for effective long lasting results. We pride ourselves in combining these skills and products to provide you with the right solution for your roof replacement, repair or restoration.

What can we do?

There are many factors to getting your roof retiled. The roof takes a lot of weathering and many people ignore/unnotice problems that may have been building up over many years, leading to major problems.

We can inspect your roof and provide a quote on work that may/may not be essential to carry out leaving you with a peace of mind.

Over years, tiles will deteriorate and crack, cement will shrink and break, felt will degrade if water enters below.

For flat roofs, we only fit DuoPly™ EPDM Rubber Roofing as it has the highest durability and has a life-expectancy for 50 years+

Traditional Mineral-Felt roofs are far less durable and should be replaced.

  • Why is there damp in my loft?

This happens if there isn't enough airflow through your roof, which causes condensation. This can be cured by installing roof/fascia ventilation.

  • I have a cracked rooftile but no water is coming through. Shall I leave it?

Leaving broken tiles will eventually decay the felt underneath which is only a secondary barrier. In time water will get in. We highly recommend replacing roof tiles immedietely if broken.

Cladding

What can we do?

Currently the newest trend for cladding is Hardie-Plank. This material is a cement fibre board which has the grain of wood, supplied in many colours, with very long lasting durability.

Hardie Plank is a fully ventilated system that is an exceptional prevention for damp.

Hardie Plank material is now being used for fascias and soffits also because of its versatilty and long lifespan.

We offer advice on the most suitable cladding material for your property. There are so many different types, some will not be suited for you.

  • My exterior bedroom wall seems damp and cold. How can this be solved?

This could be from your existing cladding may not have a membrane behind to stop any damp travelling in, or it may not be insulated. Also, it may not have sufficient ventilation (now required by the Standards Agency) causing it to sweat.

  • My cladding has faded in colour. I thought cladding lasts forever.

Unfortunately all cladding has a life-expectancy, however some are much better quality than others. We strive to source the best materials which have colour-fast guarantees.

  • I seem to have birds roosting behind my cladding?!

This can happen if the ventilation-strip has come away or never was installed, allowing birds/animals to enter behind the cladding. We can assess and install what is necessary to eliminate the problem.

  • My home has a well. I have noticed pink stain/residue that builds up in my tub. What is it?

Generally when you see pink or orange stains on the fixtures it means you have iron in the water. Well water needs to have a water softener or other filtering device to remove naturally occurring minerals.

  • What causes a sewer smell from kitchen sink when using the dishwasher?

If you get a sewer smell when you are using the dishwasher on a kitchen sink, it often means there is a blockage in the vent or the drain of the pipes inside the wall. If you have a clogged vent on the roof, then the back-pressure that is created when you try to put water into the pipe.

Decking

What can we do?

Your outdoor space is an extension of your home, and truly a ‘living area’. Our decking professionals specialise in designing, installing and maintaining a wide range of composite and wooden decking solutions. Your property, your needs, and your ideas are unique, which is why we never have a one size fits all approach to your decking solution. We tailor unique, long lasting, decking solutions for you.

Different types of decking
  • Pressure Treated Timber

Despite all the competition, this ubiquitous green-tinted wood is still the No. 1 decking material sold today. In fact, approximately 75 percent of all new decks are finished with pressure-treated (PT) timber.

The downside of PT timber is that it's not very dimensionally stable, so it has a tendency to crack, split and warp. And routine maintenance is necessary to prolong the life and look of the deck. This will include an annual power washing and an application of stain or wood preservative every two or three years.

  • Hardwood Timber (e.g Cedar)

If the natural look of wood is tops on your list, use hardwood. The heartwood of the tree (the deeper colored red part, not the white sap part) is rot resistant. eg. Cedar doesn’t readily absorb moisture— and, since moisture is what creates twisting and splitting, cedar decking tends to lie flat and straight. Most carpenters figure a lifespan of 15 to 20 years for cedar deck boards, but it can deteriorate faster when used for ground-level decks and for shaded decks that are slow to dry out.

To retain the color, you have to clean it and reseal it every year or two, and even then it’s a losing battle. We've never seen a 10-year-old cedar deck that still had that warm, rich look of new wood. Cedar is also soft; when used for stairs or for decks where furniture gets dragged around a lot, the edges in particular can get beat up. Finally, the cost of the cedar is moderate, more than pressure-treated but somewhat less than composite.

  • Composite Decking

If near-zero maintenance is your goal, buy composite decking. Most is made from recycled plastic and wood chips or sawdust. It’s more expensive than cedar, but once it’s down, it won’t rot, splinter or twist. The color change is even (though in shady, damp areas it can turn dark, like the example in the photo). You can even stain most types after four to six months. Since the material is defect free, you can use every inch. Maintenance involves spraying it off with a hose. Some people don’t like the look of the stuff and it’s cold on bare feet. But if you want to relax on your deck instead of work on it, bite the bullet and invest in the extra cost.

  • My decking has sunk, how do I fix it?

This is an idication that the joists have deteriorated or he framework has been propped up efficiently. This would require the entire decking to be redone.

  • My decking is worn, can I just replace these?

This depends if the joists are in suitable condition. If so,, it will be ok to remove the old surface boards and replace with new. Otherwise, this would require the entire decking to be redone.

  • My laminate flooring is lifting and looks horrible. What's the reason?

Low quality laminate flooring tends to pull apart, leaving gaps. As your floor is lifting, sufficent space may not have been accounted for around the entire perimiter of the floor. Each flooring type has its own specifiaction for spacing.

  • I've had wooden flooring put down a couple of years ago. Is it easy to revive as it seems worn?

We would use an industrial quality sander to take of the surface coating of your flooring and smooth out any indentations caused over time. We would then retreat the wood with sufficient coating making it as good as new.
